Dr. James Holly, Jr. is a pioneering voice in engineering education research, focusing on the experiences of Black engineering students and integrating Black educational and sociological perspectives. In 2023, he founded Enkofa Research Village to revolutionize engineering education research by centering Black perspectives and experiences.
Dr. Holly, Jr.'s work spans from broadening conceptions of engineering through interest-based challenges to advancing racial equity through counter-storytelling and critical examination of systemic barriers. His research emphasizes the importance of considering students' racial identity and cultural background in engineering education.
Through Enkofa Research Village, Dr. Holly, Jr. and his colleagues conduct research to improve educational outcomes for engineering students by examining experiences, teaching practices, and discourses through the lens of Black perspectives.
